Cruising Norwegian ( Experts at Keeping the Good times Going)

Updated: Nov 9, 2022

Canada and East Coast US September 23rd to October 3rd On the Norwegian Joy

Cruising out of the Manhattan Cruise ship terminal as Hurricane Ian was starting to gain strength on September 23rd, we were aware of Ian. We knew that the ship there were possibilities of rough seas and changes to the itinerary. The 23rd in New York was a beautiful day, and as we headed North, the Sea did get more turbulent on the 24th. The Joys Captain and Staff made sure everyone was as comfortable as possible. We stayed 100 nautical miles out past Hurricane Ian. Ian did alter the trip despite the two days at Sea at the beginning of the journey; our Port of Charlotte Town Prince Edward Island had to be missed by the ship Charlotte Town was severely damaged.

Norwegian Joy arrived in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, a delightful place to stop, especially after rough seas and my family's emotional turmoil of our beloved Lab Libby passing away. Thank you, Facetime, for making that experience a little more bearable.

Corner Brook is a delightful place with Public Art and a vibrant City Council that was out, making the ship's passengers feel welcome and showing off their city.

Day 5 brought us another day at Sea again due to Hurricane Ian and the damage caused to Sydney Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Day 6 Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax did ok with Hurricane Ian coming through downed trees and power lines but minimal damage otherwise. Halifax was our jumping-off point to visiting Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, a Unesco world heritage site; I will share pictures later in another post. We also saw Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia, through the generosity of a good friend who retired from the area. I will again share the gorgeous pictures, even with the fog and drizzle from the hurricane, in a later post.

Day 7 Saint John, New Brunswick, Hate to admit that we did not go out and experience the abundance of Nature that the Bay of Fundy offers. We did, however, experience the seafood and the fabulous hospitality. City Market is yumminess.

Day 8 Portland, Maine, again, I hate to admit I was not as active as I should have been but wow, do I have great nature pictures coming in and out of the Port. Again, I will admit we let our stomachs lead us around, and we ate at an extremely yummy venue that we learned about by watching Somebody Feed Phil episode on Portland, Maine. Duck Fat Frites Shack, wow, what a venue.

Day 9 Boston, Massachusetts, Hurricane Fiona was making herself known, and the Sea was starting to get rough again; hubby and I were a little shy with our planning, so we ended up leaving the Pier via Lyft and going to the Old North Church, Such an iconic place due to Paul Reveres ride and the freedom trail and the Old North neighborhood with all its delicious restaurants and culture.

Day 10 on the way back to New York, hello Hurricane Fiona, time to try and relax a little and prepare not to be pampered and not to eat anytime you are slightly hungry. We settled and contemplated our Holiday plans, and we will be back to cruising in December of this year with a Cruise to the Dominican Republic, Purto Rico, Us Virgin Islands, St Maarten, Antigua, and the British Virgin Islands out of New Yorks Manhattan terminal, this time with our lovely daughter aka the owl for Christmas and New Years.
